The Mining Guide - Updated (17/08/17)

Another post to cover some of the strategy behind this game. My intention is to make this the definitive guide to mining; tier options, mine statistics, efficiency and other sections. In total, it’s a lengthy article, but hopefully there are sections people found useful.

Where possible, I will update this thread if I find things have been updated. It may take time, and therefore I cannot guarantee the information is accurate when you come to use it. I hope it is still useful nevertheless. In addition there may be further tiers or upgrades than I have listed - if I ever get the information to populate them (by myself or others), I will aim to update this thread accordingly.

    Starting Out

    Mining Basics
Minecraft… I guess it’s in the title. Mining is possibly the most reliable method of generating income in Craft of Clans. It becomes a steady grind - gradually earning more and more gems per hour as you work your way through the mines.

To get to the mines, there are three main options available (excluding via
    /menu):
    1. Talk to the miner figure (left hand side, central figure) within the main help room
    2. Head out of spawn and turn right. Immediately turn right and talk to the miner warp.
    3. Use the command
    /mines

    Pickaxes and enchantments
In addition to the normal pickaxes to pick from (no pun intended!), there are a number of donator pickaxe perks:
    > Barbarian / Archer Kit - Diamond Efficiency II (2)
    > Wizard Kit - Diamond Efficiency III (3)
    > Golem Kit - Diamond Efficiency V (5)
    > Dragon Kit - Diamond Efficiency VI (6)
    > King Kit - Diamond Efficiency VIII (8)
    > Grand Warden Kit - Diamond Efficiency IX (9)
    > God-King Kit - Diamond Efficiency X (10)
    and also indestructible

    > Premium - Diamond Efficiency X (10)

Normal players can also enchant their pickaxes, and this is done using an enchanting table. For diamond and stone pickaxes, Efficiency V can only be obtained through the anvil (all other types of pickaxe can get to Efficiency V through the enchanting table alone).

    Pickaxe Calculations
I will discuss some basics within this section, but for full details see here.

Each block within the mines is assigned a hardness (difficulty to break). The base speed at which the block can be mined is multiplied by 1.5 if using a pickaxe.

Hardness values for blocks within the mines:
    Stone - 1.5
    Coal ore - 3
    Redstone ore - 3
    Lapis Lazuli ore - 3
    Gold Ore - 3
    Iron Ore - 3
    Iron Block - 5

Glowstone - Always takes 0.45 seconds to break

    For Diamond pickaxes, the starting bonus is 8. This is then added to the efficiency squared, plus 1. For example, Efficiency V diamond pickaxes have a speed bonus of (8 + ((5 x 5) + 1)) = (8 + 25 + 1) = 34

If this speed bonus is greater than the hardness of the material x 30, the block is instantly mined (for example, the King, Grand Warden, God-King and Premium pickaxes will instantly break stone).

    Note:
Breaking takes 5 times as long if the player is not standing on the ground while digging, and 5 times as long if the player is underwater and lacks armor with Aqua Affinity. These two values can combine, giving a 25× multiplier for a swimming player.

    Mining Tiers 1

The mining interface is laid out as four rows and five columns of mining blocks. To warp to each mine, click the relevant tier.

Important: Although the images of the mining tier are listed, they do not correspond to the ores available in that tier. See Section Ores at each Tier about the ores available in each tier.

    I need X

This section covers optimum mines to locate either blocks or experience, since mining can be a great way to obtain experience as well as ores.

    I need blocks...
    Using Normal Mines only...

    Cobblestone
    ...........- Tier 1
    Redstone
    ................- Tier 3 or 4
    Coal
    ........................- Tier 3 or 4
    Glowstone
    ..............- Pretty equal throughout
    Gold Ore
    .................- Tier 5, Tier 10
    Lapis Lazuli Ore
    .....- Tier 4, Tier 7
    Iron Ore
    ..................- Tier 10
    Iron block
    ...............- Tier 10

    I need experience...
Coal ore, redstone ore and Lapis Lazuli ore all have a chance to return experience, at averages of 1, 3 and 3.5 respectively.

This, surprisingly, returns Tier 4 as the optimum mine to gain experience. Tier 4 Donor mine is approximately 1/3rd better still!
